Observations in Rome

I have been in Rome for two days now, and here are some observations.

*You can smoke everywhere in Rome. The restaurant, the bathroom, the street, in church(!), on the train, on the bus. I actually think it may be required in some situations.
*Everyone here has a cell phone. Everyone. Old, young, you name it, they have a cell phone. And, they are not shy about using it. Everywhere. In a restaurant, in the bathroom, on the street, in church(!), on the train, on the bus, while placing an order for coffee. Amazing.
*Traffic laws are more general guidelines. Follow them only if you feel like it.
*Jaywalking is not only permitted, it is highly encouraged. It may be a close call, but the cars probably wont hit you.
*English is spoken with less frequency than I have been led to believe. It is absolutely amazing what my very broken and unaccented Italian, some pointing, and drawing on a notepad can get you.
*Italians are extremely pushy. I dont necessarily mean rude, pushy, but physically pushy. While waiting in line, they press up against you as tightly as possible making it nearly impossible to breathe.
*The only people pushier than Italians - Russians. They exploit any gap in personal space to get in front of people. It is amazing to watch!
*When it comes to decoration, churches are dripping with art. If it is in a fixed spot, there is some kind of art on it. There are absolutely no bare walls in any church. If the wall is bare, it is made of amazing marble and needs no further decoration.
*The old advice that Europeans dont wear jeans is a load of crap. Same with the adage that Europeans dress better than Americans. Double crap. I have seen some of the tackiest and most revealing outfits on Italians that I have ever experienced.
*Italian/European men are not afraid to wear man-pris. Or tight, fluorescent pants with a mesh shirt. Or all white from head to toe. Amazing.
Anyhow, these are just a few of the things I have observed. Keep your eyes open for the next list! Ciao!

Nice blogs - sounds like you are having fun. I am going to get a pair of manpris and mesh shirt now that I know it is cool in Italy.

would white man-pris and a white mesh shirt be a suitable combination?

Looks like people are having way toooo much fun with your blog. Keep up the great observations. Who knows, you may change the Seattle/Alki dress code to a more international look.

Ciao, cognata! I like the blog idea - very cool to be able to follow your great adventure! I'm running out to purchase Eric some tight, white manpris as we speak. Crop top, anyone? Yeaaaaahhhhhh.
