Sorrento!

So, after a short delay in Naples - more on that later - I've finally arrived in Sorrento.

Apparently, trains, garbage handlers, city workers, you name it, go on strike with fairly regularly frequency. Unfortunately, I became one of the victims of a train strike during my trip. I made it to Naples just fine, but found out that the Circumvesuvenia train (direct from Naples to Herculaneum, Pompeii, and Sorreto - wasn't running due to a strike. But, it wasn't running only between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Weird. I got into Naples at 9 a.m. and thought I would be able to hit Herculaneum and Pompeii on my way to Sorrento. Alas, this was not meant to be. The Circumvesuvenia didn't start running again until 1:45...So, being he intrepid explorer that I am, I decided to take a walking tour of Naples. Big mistake. I hated Naples. Make that I HATED Naples. Dirty, stinky (relics of a just-ended garbage strike), and rude. Granted, I'm pretty sure I was lost in one of the worst neighborhoods. So, I reserve the right to hold judgement on Naples 'til I actually get to explore it. Without feeling like I'm about to be murdered or run down by a vespa.

Anyhow, now I'm in Sorrento. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Sorrento. It's amazing! It looks exactly like a postcard. The people are really friendly. Sorrento is one of those amazing places that understands that it is primarily a tourist destination and makes the best of it. Tourists aren't treated with kid gloves, but they don't feel like tourists, either. The weather is amazing, the people are kind, and the scenery is unbelievable. I LOVE Sorrento!

Well, gotta run. I'm having dinner on the waterfront tonight. Ahhh...Italy! Ciao!
